And so we did it! When I first saw my son at the recovery ward after the surgery, his bloody stained lips really made me think he has gone through quite a big battle! Our 5 month old baby just went through a left cleft lip repair, primary rhinoplasty (a.k.a a nose job), SSEP (Steady State Evoked Potentials) to check his ears and Myringotomy (grommet insertion into his left ear).
We thank God for the smooth surgery carried out by Dr Por and his team. Can’t be more thankful for such a caring and meticulous surgeon to help us with KR’s lip repair and Rhinoplasty.
Besides this, KR also went through a thorough ear check (SSEP) to see if he has any hearing difficulty or was born with any impairment. When I first brought KR home, I always feared that he can’t hear cos he did not respond to sounds the way his sister did.
The fear escalated when the ENT Dr took quite a while after Dr Por’s surgery to continue with the SSEP. What if KR really can’t hear? I heaved a sign of relief the moment the ENT Dr called me after the procedure to say that the SSEP test showed that KR’s hearing is good. He only has fluid built up in his left ear due to his cleft palate and a lot of ear wax in his right ear. Thank you Jesus! That moment, tears fell down my cheeks. My son can hear! He could hear every lullaby I sing, the prayers I utter and all my I love you and the stories I read.
The ENT doctor went ahead with the Myringotomy (grommet insertion) so that they could drain out the fluid that has been built up to help him hear better.
KR, today with your new lips, Mummy declare Psalm 71 over your life,
In You, O Lord, KR has taken refuge;
Let him never be ashamed.
In Your righteousness deliver him and rescue him;
Incline Your ear to him and save him. (Always).
Be to him a rock of habitation to which he may continually go to You;
You have given commandment to save him,
For You are his rock and fortress.
Rescue him, O God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the grasp of the wrongdoer and ruthless man,
For You are his hope;
O Lord God, You are his confidence from his youth.
By You he has been sustained from his birth;
You are He who took him from my womb;
Let his praise be continually of You.
He will become a marvel to many,
For You are his strong refuge.
His mouth is filled with Your praise
And with Your glory all day long.
Do not cast him off in the time of old age;
Do not forsake him when his strength fails.
When his enemies have spoken against him
And those who watch for his life have consulted together,
Saying, “God has forsaken him;
Pursue and seize him, for there is no one to deliver.”
O God, do not be far from him;
Lord, hasten to his help!
Let those who are adversaries of his soul be ashamed and consumed;
Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor, who seek to injure him.
Let him hope continually,
And will praise You yet more and more.
His mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
And of Your salvation all day long;
For he does not know the sum of them.
He will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord God;
He will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.
O God, teach him from his youth,
And let him continually declare Your wondrous deeds.
And even when he is old and gray, O God, do not forsake him,
Until he declare Your strength to this generation,
Your power to all who are to come.
For Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens,
You who have done great things;
O God, who is like You?
You who have shown him many troubles and distresses
Will revive him again,
And will bring him up again from the depths of the earth.
May You increase his greatness
And turn to comfort him.
He will also praise You with a harp,
Even Your truth, O my God;
To You he will sing praises with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
His lips will shout for joy when he sing praises to You;
And his soul, which You have redeemed.
His tongue also will utter Your righteousness all day long;
For those who seek to hurt him are put to shame.
Praise Him, son, praise Him!
